hi everyone, some facts of Trichy & Madurai airport.

Trichy has its own catchment area which includes Trichy,Tanjore,Ariyalur,Perambalur,Thiruvarur,
Nagapatnam,Pudukotai & some from Namakkal,Karur. These districts people will come to Trichy airport only.

but in case of Madurai they have Madurai, sivaganga,Theni,Virudhunagar,
Tirunelveli,Ramanathapuram only.Tutucurin has airport.

Kanyakumari people never come to Madurai because Trivandrum has international airport
only 40km from Kanyakumari.

Tiruchi airport to be partially privatised

CHENNAI: The Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to partially privatise non-metro airports, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said here on Saturday.

Mr. Patel. who arrived here by a special aircraft in the evening, told The Hindu at the airport that under the programme the airports in Tiruchi, Amritsar in Punjab and Udaipur in Rajasthan would be thus privatised.

Explaining the concept of partial privatisation, Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials said other than the terminal buildings, the operational area and the runway, areas including car parking, courier and cargo facilities would be handed over to private companies under Private-Public Partnership arrangements. The AAI would lease the land to the private operator and the operator would pay the AAI a licence fee.

Answering a question on the quantum of User Development Fees to be introduced at the Chennai and Kolkata airports, Mr. Patel said it had not been decided yet.

Airports modernisation

The AAI is in the process of modernising 80 airports to international standards. User Development Fees has been proposed to meet the expenses, he said. The two private operators at the New Delhi and Mumbai airports are already charging User Development Fees.

Air India Express, a subsidiary of national carrier Air India, will enter the domestic low-cost space in a few months. The plan, however, is still in the proposal stage, said Tara Naidu, chief commercial officer, Air India Express.

The subsidiary already flies on Gulf, South Asia and Southeast Asia routes.

Naidu said, "We want to get into domestic operations because people prefer low-cost carriers to full-service ones. Our domestic operations will cover both metros and non-metros and our existing fleet, along with that of Air India, will be used for this venture," she said.

Air India's fleet stands at 68, of which 22 planes belong to Air India Express. Naidu said the parent's other resources, too, will be redeployed for the arm's domestic operations.

On the likelihood of the new service cannibalising the parent's operations, she said, "To some extent there will cannibalisation but we will offer both low-cost and full-service flights on routes that have demand for both. In small towns, the concentration of low-cost flights will be higher."

On the international front, the subsidiary is looking to expand to Delhi-Kuala Lumpur and introduce new flights on routes such as Thiruvananthapuram-Muscat and Mangalore-Abu Dhabi. Three new flights will be added to the Trichy-Kuala Lumpur route.

Air India Express operates 202 flights a week to 14 destinations outside India from 17 cities.
