CCTV facility for Tiruchi airport soon

The Tiruchi airport is poised for enhanced security and surveillance with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) deciding to bring it under Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV) soon.

The CCTV facility involving usage of Static and ‘Pan Tilt Zoom’ surveillance cameras would be in place at the Tiruchi airport within six months, the Airport Controller S. Dharmaraj said on Tuesday.

A total number of 50 surveillance cameras would be installed at vantage points to cover the entire airport including the apron, perimeter road, terminal buildings and the car parking slot.

Orders had already been placed by the Planning Directorate for the camera-based monitoring system to be in place within six months, Mr. Dharmaraj told reporters here.

I THINK THAT THE SEP STATISTICS CROSSED 65000MARK AFTER THE INTRODUCTION OF AIR ASIA EVENING FLIGHT THAT ALSO A MAJOR SUCCESS AGAIN FOR AIR ASIA. IF AIR ARABIA INTRODUCED THE TRAFFIC CROSSES 75000MARK. WE ARE VERY NEAR TO CLOSE MANGALORE AND COIMBATORE AIRPORTS.

I AM EAGER TO SEE THE SEP STATISTICS.

ONE BAD THING NOTICED IN THE MADURAI EDITION OF DINAMALAR STATES THAT MADURAI AIRPORT WILL HANDLE 6.11LAC PASSANGERS DURING 2011 ACCORDING TO THE SURVEY. TRICHY AIRPORT WILL MAKE 6LAC MARK THIS YEAR . THEY DON'T QUOTE THIS NEWS. WHY THE TRICHY EDITION OF DINAMALAR DAILY WILL NOT INITIATE ANY STEPS TO POPULARISE THE TRICHY AIRPORT. IN THIS CASE DAILYTHANTHI AND DINAKARAN ROLE'S APPRECIATED.

WE ARE NOT AGAINST MADURAI. THEN WHY?

He said the AAI was supporting a survey being conducted by the district administration for the acquisition of land for expansion of the Tiruchi airport runway from the present 8,000 feet to 12,500 feet. Expansion of the runway would pave the way for comfortable landing and take off of wide bodied jets such as the Boeing 747 aircraft.

We require 439 acres for the complete development of the Tiruchi Airport, Mr. Dharmaraj said adding that the survey which commenced last week was expected to be completed in 20-25 days. The AAI has planned to construct a new technical-cum-control tower at the Tiruchi Airport as part of a move to modernise the ATC.

Operation of flights from Chennai to Tiruchi; Tiruchi – Bangalore and Tiruchi – Mumbai would be proposed during the Aerodrome Advisory Committee meeting slated on November 5.

Stating that the passenger traffic of around 65,000 air travellers every month at Tiruchi Airport was encouraging, Mr. Dharmaraj said a study on cargo potential at the airport is planned to be conducted. About 150 tonnes of perishable commodities were being flown from Tiruchi to the Gulf countries every month, he added.

Friends look closely at this terminal, hereafter we trichy people may have to board flights from this terminal.
This is the new Madurai Airport terminal under construction, when a single aero bridge construction took so long for completion in trichy, the madurai airport is being constructed with 3 aero bridges, i dont know how many international flights are from madurai, but still.

Madurai is moving at a good pace even the malls, shopping complex etc etc ......

Earlier people used to refere Trichy as a sleepy temple town. The way things are moving i think
we will retain the name, and be the same .........
........ ofcourse it is a shame , but whom shall we blame.

Simply politics....Nothing else :(

The construction of New terminal was impacted by high cost of raw materials like cement and steel. The contract was finalized in 2006, but as everyone knows the steel and cement prices skyrocketed in 2006,2007 and early 2008.The contractor wanted to revise the contract and the construction was delayed. The AAI had to postponed one Aerobridge construction due to cost escalation.

ONE INTERESTING ARTICLE TODAY AT HINDU

THE VIRUDUNAGAR MP HAS TOLD THE REPORTERS THAT EFFORTS ARE BEING MADE TO DECLARE MADURAI AS A CUSTOMS AIRPORT.

DON'T WORRY TIRUCHIANS.

IT NEVER HAPPEN. I THINK THAT WITHDRAWN SHARJAH FLIGHT MAY INTRODUCED TO MADURAI DURING ITS INAGURATION. AIR INDIA IS VERY COSTLY COMPARING TO AIRINDIA EXPRESS. NOT MUCH PATRONAGE WILL BE THERE AT MADURAI ALSO. NO INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES ARE PLANNING FOP MADURAI TILL DATE. EVEN THOUGH MADURAI HAS ENOUGH FACILITIES AT PRESENT FOR HANDLING INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS. THE RUNWAY IS 7500FT LONG AND CAPABLE FOR AIRBUS A-320 0PERATIONS. BUT AIRLINES LIKE JET AIRWAYS IS NOT DEPLOYED AIRBUS CATEOGORY FLIGHTS TO MADURAI. THEY ARE DEPLOYED ATR AIRCRAFTS ONLY. MAY BE MADURAI TERMINAL IS BIGGER THAN THE TRICHY TERMINAL. THATS ALL.

I WANT TO TELL ONE THING. TRICHY AIRPORT IS MOSTLY USED BY DELTA DISTRICT PEOPLE ONLY. SOUTHERN DISTRICTS % IS VERY LESS ONLY. NOW IAM WORKING AT RAS AL KHAIMAH. IN MY FACTORY MAJORITY PEOPLE FROM DELTA DISTRICTS ONLY. EVEN MY FLIGHT JOURNEY ON LAST MONTH FROM TRICHY MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE FROM DELTA DISTRICTS ONLY.

Hi Narayanan sir, i'm from madurai and working in Fujairah. Are U working for RAK CERAMICS? I always use Tiruchy airport to sharjah, which is near and convenient than to dubai airport. Any idea when sharjah flight resumes to tiruchy or madurai?

no not really, base on the sources, trichy airport has a general equal patronage from both delta districts and southern districts, and with 50% from western districts upto salem, and the other 50% board from kovai and cochin.

tamil population in UAE are generally more from southern districts, compared to delta districts who are more towards singapore and malaysia.

Most of the NRIs from Southern districts to UAE are from Kanyakumari who use Trivandrum airport. Also NRIs from Tuticorin and Tirunelveli currently use Trivandrum airport.Basically NRIs from Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram use Trichy airport.Other southern districts like Dindugal,Theni etc are negligibale.

Trichy has largest catchment area due to its location. The whole central districts, most of NRIs from Sivagangai,Ramanatharpuram,Namakkal,Karaikkal,Chidambaram,Villupuram use Trichy airport.
