Tigerair flights will be operated under the Scoot brand

Nine months after Scoot and Tigerair announced their intention to pursue a single brand and operating licence under the enhanced Scoot brand, the airline industry bade farewell to Tigerair Singapore as its last flight departed Singapore for Tiruchirappalli at 2305 on July 24.

Now on, all previous Tigerair flights will be operated under the Scoot brand and Scoot flights will operate under the TR flight designator code. This marks the completion of the Scoot-Tigerair integration process that began last May when the airlines were brought under a common holding company, Budget Aviation Holdings.

After successfully commencing operations in India last year, award winning value airline Scoot is all set to take up new destinations under its umbrella that were running under Tigerair. These include Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Tiruchirappalli and Lucknow which will now operate under the single brand name – Scoot from July 25, 2017.

Lee Lik Hsin, CEO, Scoot said, “As we come to the end of Tigerair’s journey, we open up a brand new chapter for Scoot. Building on what Tigerair and the old Scoot had achieved since their respective inceptions, we are stronger than we have ever been before, and consequently in an even better position to offer our guests more choice, connectivity and value. The enhanced Scoot that we are introducing today is spunky and sassy, and promises to create more travel opportunities for our guests.”

To celebrate the merger to the single Scoot brand, special one-way promotional fares from Bengaluru will start from as low as INR 5,599 to Singapore, INR 9,799 to Bali, INR 10,499 to Hong Kong, INR 12,499 to Melbourne/Sydney among others. Additional 10% discounts are also available through promotional codes for a booking period from 25 July to 6 Aug 2017.

Scoot was very well received after the launch of our first three destinations in India last year, the response was remarkable. We hope to create the same impact in Bengaluru, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Lucknow and Hyderabad by bringing great prices without compromising on the safety and comfort of the passengers. When flying with a young and passionate airline like Scoot, our guests can expect a safe, reliable and contemporary travel experience with a unique attitude

Thailand Strategy to tap travel from India

Quote:
Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports will focus on attracting Indian travellers mainly in the incentives, or events market, while encouraging airlines to add flights between the two countries.

Tourism and Sports Minister, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, said the ministry discussed promotions with Indian associations and airline representatives.

“Organising events would help to encourage more Indian travellers to the kingdom such as Worship Lord Ganesha 2018, Holy Festival 2018 and Thai India Fun Fair.”

Another priority is to establish more flights. One possible route would link Bangkok to Tiruchirappalli, a southern city in India.

“Thailand and India have close cultural links…Indian travellers love to go to beaches and organise weddings in Thailand…we should hold events that encourage Indian tourists to secondary destinations.”

Last year, Thailand welcomed over 1.2 million Indian travellers generating THB55,000 million in revenue.

For the first five months of this year, the kingdom attracted over 600,000 Indian tourists circulating THB25,000 million. They spent 7.6 days on length of stay and THB45,000 per head per trip on average, the minister added.

Pattaya, Samui and Phuket are top destinations for Indian tourists to visits, organise wedding and use medical treatment service.

As per DGCA statistics for june month, air passenger traffic for Trichy to Chennai was 9860 with just 3 jet airways ATR aircrafts. The percentage load factor was 80.5%.

Even with the ex-orbitant fares for Chennai (minimum Rs. 5500/-) Trichy achieved 80% load factor, this shows Trichy is really a business class city with needs more direct flight connectivity to Mumbai, Delhi, etc.

IndiGo keen to operate services from Tiruchi
Tiruchi international airport may soon witness operation of another domestic service in the coming months with a team from IndiGo visiting the airport on Monday.

A high - level delegation from IndiGo a low-cost airline carried out a operational feasibility study ahead of launching service from Tiruchi and held discussions with top officials of the Airport Authority of India here.

The five-member team held a meeting with the Airport Director K. Gunasekaran in this connection besides interacting with senior officials of the Air Traffic Management and Export Cargo terminal to get a first hand account of the airport. Tiruchi at present has only domestic connectivity to Chennai despite repeated demands from the travel industry for augmenting domestic services to various other cities from here.

Airport sources told The Hindu that the team went around the new international terminal building, Air Traffic Control, export cargo terminal, runway and the Indian Oil Corporation terminal at the airport. The team ascertained finer details regarding the international airport, its existing operation details, passenger capacity and other technical details.

The team has expressed interest in launching services in the Tiruchi – Chennai and Tiruchi – Bengaluru sectors, Airport Director, Tiruchi K. Gunasekaran told The Hindu after the meeting.

During the discussions, the airline officials evinced interest in operating service from Tiruchi during the upcoming winter schedule, he further said. The airline is expected to operate ‘ATR’ type aircraft in the Tiruchi – Chennai and Tiruchi – Bengaluru sectors. The team is expected to convey the details to its higher ups before taking a concrete decision on the launch of the new service, said airport sources.
