Dear Friends,

Vanakkam.

I am writing from Abu Dhabi.

I heard one bad news circulating with the Abu Dhabi peoples about Trichy Airport Services. Airport authorities asking commission (above 2000) and taking some goods from the packet.

I don't know this message is true or false. But its not good for the development of our Trichy.

Flight service to Abu Dhabi from April 30 :D

TIRUCHI: Low-cost carrier Air India Express will introduce a twice-a-week service on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Abu Dhabi sector from April 30.

Abu Dhabi will be the third foreign destination to be linked from Tiruchi by the airline. The new service would be in addition to AI Express’ flights to Dubai and Singapore from here. The airline recently increased the frequency of its flights on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Dubai sector. It operates 14 flights a week to Singapore and seven flights a week to Dubai.

The Chennai-Tiruchi-Abu Dhabi flights (IX 613/614) would be operated on Thursdays and Saturdays, sources told The Hindu. The flight will depart Chennai at 12.50 p.m., arrive here at 1.40 p.m and leave for Abu Dhabi at 2.30 p.m. In the return direction, it will arrive from Abu Dhabi at 11.55 p.m., depart for Chennai at 12.50 a.m. to reach Chennai at 1.40 a.m.

The introduction of the service comes in the wake of a good demand, airline sources said pointing out that many travellers were taking the Dubai flight and drive down from there to Abu Dhabi. Otherwise, they take a connecting flight from Colombo to Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, the airline has slashed fares on the Tiruchi-Chennai sector and introduced a special fare of Rs.999 (inclusive of taxes), against its existing fare of Rs. 2,330. The special fare comes into immediate effect. The airline hopes to attract a substantial number of train travellers.

Low-cost carriers soaring
By Karamjit Kaur AVIATION CORRESPONDENT

LOW-COST airlines that carried 12.3 per cent of Changi Airport's total passenger traffic last year, are giving the big boys a run for their money.
Five years ago, airlines like Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia accounted for just 1.7 per cent of Changi's throughput and 6 per cent of weekly flights. Today, two out of 10 flights are operated by low-cost carriers.

Transport Minister Raymond Lim made special mention of the key role that low-cost carriers have played in the airport's growth, when he spoke at an event at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport on Tuesday night to honour Changi's best.

Apart from boosting Changi's traffic, the airlines have also enhanced the airport's connectivity by flying to 'unique' cities like Bandung in Indonesia, Haikou in China and Tiruchirapalli in India, he said.

For their contributions, Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia were among those honoured at the fourth Changi Airline Awards, for making it onto the list of Changi Airport's 10 largest carriers by passenger numbers.

It was the fourth consecutive win for Tiger and third, for Jetstar. Others on the list included Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Malaysia Airlines.

Low-cost carriers Air India Express, Cebu Pacific Air and Jetstar's Australian sister airline Jetstar Airways, were also among the top five in the second category - the highest year-on-year growth in passenger numbers. They shared the honours with Lion Air and Xiamen Airlines.

In all, 25 airlines, including cargo carriers Federal Express and Nippon Cargo Airlines, were recognised for helping to maintain Changi?s status as a leading regional aviation hub.

Changi has a network of more than 4,570 weekly flights, being operated by 84 airlines to more than 193 cities in 60 countries. But even as the airport, which handled a record 37.7 million last year, and its partners can be proud of their achievements, Mr Lim warned of dark clouds ahead.

The economic downturn has hit the air travel industry, with Changi's total traffic falling 8.4 per cent in the first three months of the year, compared with the same period last year. Cargo volumes slipped by 22.5 per cent.
