Madurai is not even customs airport my friend! It is just another domestic one. Even if Paramount wants to fly international today, it can not start direct service! I at least can dream as Trichy is a customs airport.

PARAMOUNT AIRWAYS EYES ON INDIA-GULF SKIES

The India-Gulf sector, one of the busiest international aviation routes in the region, will see more competition with Paramount Airways, a premium Indian carrier, planning operations to the UAE and Qatar later this year.
“We will start our international operations in the last quarter of 2010,” M. Thiagarajan, the founder and managing director of the airline, told Khaleej Times on Tuesday. “We plan operating flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah ?and Doha.”
The airline, with only business-class seats, has placed orders for 10 Airbus A-321 aircraft, to enable it to launch its international operations. Thiagarajan says the airline will also operate flights to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Mauritius, besides the two Gulf countries
.

How many of these planned services will involve direct operation from Trichy? How can they dream like this as they are in trouble with the lease of their 3 aircrafts out of their fleet of 4.(Source http://www.hindu.com/2010/03/20/stories ... 360100.htm). Neverthless, I like their plan of starting international services. I wish they start direct service from Trichy to Dubai, Doha, Sharjah, Singapore and Bangkog. This will bring more business and development.

Air India Express is also pre-empting competitors; it is working on a direct link from Tiruchirappalli to Kuala Lumpur to head off Malaysian low-fare international carrier AirAsia Bhd. It plans to make its Sharjah-Thiruvananthapuramflight daily instead of four flights a week. Sharjah-based rival Air Arabia Llc recently introduced twice-daily operations on that route.

Lanka to purchase Chinese aircraft

Sri Lanka is to purchase six turboprop-powered MA60 transport aircraft from China with the help of a Chinese government preferred loan scheme, an aviation website quoted an official at Xian Aircraft as saying.

Sri Lanka is to receive two of its MA60s this year, with the remainder to be delivered in 2011, says the Xian official.

Sri Lanka's ports and aviation ministry confirms that the country is in negotiations to buy six MA60s for the air force. Four of the MA60s will be dedicated for use by the service, but the other two may end up at state-owned carrier Mihin Lanka, it adds.

The Sri Lankan air force currently relies on Antonov An-32s, Lockheed Martin C-130Ks and Chinese-built Harbin Y12s for its transport activities.

Chinese firms are helping to finance and build airports, roads and other infrastructure in Sri Lanka, and Beijing often makes soft loans to such countries, the aviation website reported

What is the purpose of bringing this news here? How it helps Trichy airport services.

Yes Emirates flight will be diverted to Madurai airport wef 01-6-2010. Also diverted Tiger airways and Air arabia. Sorry Trichy guys. Best of luck next time.

hey maduari idiot, don't feel intolerant about the development of our trichy city, who knows may be the existing airlines operating from madurai gets suspended from 01-06-2010. We definetly get some day a direct air connectivity to all south -east & south -west asian countries. Madurai is developing (!!!!!!!!) on political shadow but trichy is not like that, it is developing without any influential from any political parties. May not now, some years later you madurai people will come to trichy for better professional & academic life, already a lot of madurai people are living in trichy with better life style than what they don't got in your madurai. Keep in mind one thing, no investors from any part of world will come to madurai to start any kind of industry or concerns since madurai is full of rowdies, gang leaders.

Madurai, April 27 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said the state government has given sanction for the acquisition of land for the proposed expansion of Madurai airport.

After laying the foundation stone for the new Integrated Terminal Building at Madurai airport here lastnight, he said he had signed the government order on April 24 for acquiring 614.33 acres of land for the project. Referring to the requests from Congress and CPM MPs on the land acquisition, he said ''before coming to Madurai for laying the foundation stone for the new terminal building, I signed the papers.'' He said his government was ready to give full cooperation to the Centre for expanding and modernising the non-metro airports at Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, Salem and Tuticorin. On completion, Madurai airport would be a world class airport similar to the ones at Singapore and Malaysia, he claimed.

In his address, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation (Independent Charge) Praful Patel said the Centre would take efforts to make all the airports in Tamil Nadu as world-class airports.

''This is our commitment and we will do it,'' he said.

By March 2009, we would have the first international flight from this new terminal, he added. - Bureau Report
