Apollo to set up 12 new hospitals

NEW DELHI: Major healthcare chain Apollo Hospitals will invest nearly Rs.1,000 crore for setting up 12 new hospitals across the country over the next two years.

Named Apollo Reach ", the hospitals will be set up in small cities.

"We will be investing Rs.80-100 crore per hospital in class-II and class-III cities across the country," Apollo Hospitals chairman Prathap C. Reddy said.

Construction work has already started at six centres including Trichi in Tamil Nadu; Varanasi and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh; Nashik and suburban Mumbai in Maharashtra and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Sites for six more hospitals are being finalised. These hospitals will have training institutes for nurses and paramedical staff.

The group also has plans to invest Rs.100 crore for setting up 500 pharmacies across the country over the next 15 months. It presently has nearly 1,200 pharmacies.

Apollo has over 53 hospitals with 8,500 beds across the country. The company plans to increase its bed capacity to 12,000 by 2015.

Stem cell Treatment After Dehli, Chennai, Bangalore, it has been introduced for the first time in the Rock City, Trichy

KMC has introduced the most innovative treatment, Stem cell treatment, in association with Nichi-in Centre for Regenerative Medicine (NCRM), Japan at Seahorse Hospital.

Japan Institute has successfully discovered a new method of transplanting the affected cell with the new one taken from the bone marrow. Through this new method of treatment, thousands of patients are able to get better life. Through this scientific development, those affected from Cancer, Heart diseases, Cardiomyopathy, Spinal cord diseases, Paralysis, Submucous fibrosis, Diabetic ulcer foot, burns, Cirrhosis of liver and Parkinsonism can easily be rescued. Stem cell treatment was introduced in India very recently. So far, this treatment facility was available only in Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore. It has been introduced at Seahorse Hospital for the first time in South Tamilnadu.

The Stem cell therapy department was inaugurated by Shri.Kazhuo Minagawa, Hon’ble Consul General of Japan on 14th April 2008 in the presence Dr.M.Ponnavaikko Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University. Healthcare chain Apollo Hospitals Enterprise today said it will invest nearly Rs 1,000 crore to set up twelve new hospitals in small towns across the country over the next two years.

"We will be investing up to Rs 1,000 crore to set up 12 'Apollo Reach' hospitals in tier-II and tier-III cities. The investment per hospital will be in the range of Rs 80 to 100 crore," Apollo Hospitals Chairman Prathap C Reddy told reporters here.

Apollo Reach Hospitals is an initiative of the Apollo Hospitals Group to expand its tertiary healthcare business into semi-urban and rural areas.

While construction work has already started on six hospitals, the company is still in the process of finalising sites for six more. It has already short-listed 14 locations.

The company has started construction work at Trichi, Varanasi , Visakhapatnam, Nashik , Allahabad and suburban Mumbai .

"We have already tied up funds for the first six hospitals. It would be in the form of debt and internal accruals. As we have an excellent debt-equity ratio, funding the next round of investment would not be an issue," Reddy said.

The twelve new hospitals will also house training institutes for nurses and paramedical staff.

The company also plans to invest Rs 100 crore on setting up another 500 pharmacies across the country over the next fifteen months. At present, it has nearly 1,200 pharmacies in India.

Apollo Hospitals is one of the largest healthcare chains in the country and currently has 9,000 beds available at its hospitals.

The company plans to increase its bed capacity to 12,000 by 2015. It also plans to augment the size of its workforce to 85,000 employees.

Shares of Apollo Hospitals closed at Rs 458.65 on the Bombay Stock Exchange today, down 1 per cent from the previous close.

Tiruchi hospital's stem cell therapy successfull

The City based private Maruti Hospital has been successfully treating a number of ailments applying stem cell therapy, for which a team of doctors comprising a plastic surgeon, an anaesthetist, an orthopaedic surgeon and a dental surgeon has been constituted.

Eminent plastic surgeon Dr P Ramachandran said though they had been applying stem cell therapy for the past one year, it was only now that they were making it public. In the last one year, a variety of medical cases, including diabetic foot, ulcers that had not healed for more than six months, avasular necrosis, submucous fibrosis and radiation necrosis of mandible had been successfully treated with stem cell therapy.

The dental surgeon in the team Dr Sankaranarayanan claimed after Chennai, stem cell therapy was introduced only in this hospital. It opened one more window of treatment for patients with such chronic or apparantly incurable ailments.

The hospital also plans to treat kidney and heart ailments through this therapy in future as more and more scientific findings come to light based on medical research in the world on application of stem cell therapy in treating cases like non fatal heart attacks, cerebral palsy, Parkinsonism, Alzheimers disease and osteoarthritis, he said.

Vasan Eye hospital opened

TIRUCHI: Vasan Eye Care opened its second hospital in the city at Kattur on Thursday. According to a release, the hospital would offer state-of-the-art facilities including latest surgery for cataract, advanced treatment for glaucoma and laser treatment for freedom from glasses and contact lens.

A diabetic retinopathy clinic, computer vision syndrome clinic, optical shop, pharmacy and laboratory are also available . A paediatric wing would provide specialised eye care services .
