Trichy Junction lacking in basic facilities, says panel after inspection

The Trichy Junction railway station is lacking basic amenities like drinking water, unhygienic conditions, improper maintenance, said chairman of Southern Railway's Passenger Amenity Committee (PAC), H Raja after inspecting the station along with the committee members here on Thursday. Necessary facilities would be established in all the stations falling under Trichy railway division, the committee assured.

The team inspected every nook and corner of the station including platforms, subway, water taps, washrooms, refreshment stalls and waiting halls. The team also inspected the coaches of the Trichy - Manamadurai and Trichy - Cuddalore Port passenger trains which were stationed there. They inquired with the passengers about the amenities at the station.

Speaking to reporters, Raja said that his team noticed some basic amenities like potable drinking water lacking in the station. He also said that the coaches were badly maintained. "We will discuss the flaws noticed at the meeting and would instruct the officials for necessary action," Raja said .

During the committee meeting held at the divisional office, chaired by Raja, the members came down heavily on the concerned officials from the division for the recent hike in platform ticket to Rs 20 from Rs 10.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations, a charter of demands was handed over to the committee which included up gradation of Trichy Junction to A1 category, revoking the hike in platform ticket to Rs 10, early completion of foot over bridge at the station, intercity and overnight trains between Trichy and Bengaluru.

Despite Trichy contributing more to long distance trains from the south, the quota for the city was very meagre. So, Trichy should be included in general quota for all long distance trains; extend trains halting at Chennai suburbs to Trichy as there is sufficient space for maintaining and halting the locos here and providing required land for speeding up the ongoing Aristo flyover in the city.

Improve cleanliness, security: panel

Image

The Passenger Amenities Committee constituted under the Ministry of Railways has suggested measures to improve cleanliness, security and passenger amenities at Tiruchi railway junction.

The committee members put forth the suggestion during a meeting with the Divisional Railway Manager, P.U.K. Reddy, and senior railway officers here on Thursday. The eight-member committee, headed by its chairman H. Raja, inspected the Tiruchi Junction earlier to ascertain the facilities and other amenities available at the station.

During the course of their nearly hour-long inspection, the committee members inspected the retiring rooms, dormitory, information centre, booking office, Platform 6, waiting hall, passenger subway, restaurants on platform and coaches of the Tiruchi – Manamadurai and Tiruchi–Cuddalore Port passenger trains which were stationed at that time.

Mr. Raja later told reporters at the station that the committee conducted inspection to ascertain amenities and other facilities available at stations as per the respective station’s category besides the hygiene aspect on board trains as well.

The committee had conducted inspection at 150 stations across the country this year. And this had resulted in improved facilities and hygiene, Mr. Raja said.

Later, the committee members met the Divisional Railway Manager and other railway officers here.

The committee suggested measures to improve cleanliness, security and passenger amenities at Tiruchi Junction which the divisional officers assured to implement in a planned manner.

One of the committee members, Aseervatham Acharya, said he had raised the issue of developing the Kallukuzhi second entry side of the station by providing adequate lighting facility. Mr. Acharya said the committee found lack of proper infrastructure on platform 6.

The committee found two DEMU coaches stationed on platform 6 in a pathetic condition and directed the railway officials to clean them.

Mr. Acharya said he had also taken up the issue of the increase in platform ticket at Tiruchi Junction fromRs. 10 to Rs. 20. The divisional railway authorities had informed him that the hike would be withdrawn soon, he added.

Wish and hope that this train is made a regular train from November

Timing is best suited for Trichy in both directions---Even in the last 10 days in this train, Patronage was more from Trichy side, especially in weekends--Also a chance for more towns in South TN to be connected with TPJ

:)

Now it is heavy rain at Trichy. Platform no 1 is not that much convenient to the passengers as there is a water flow near the Station Manager room. Will the authority look into this?

Is it possible to post some of the above mentioned incidents with photos???, we will take up with RM, Piyush Goyal.
