Continuing on Rockfort's extension to Kumbakonam,

After Rockfort was extended to Thanjavur, a new train to Erode from Chennai was introduced. This is to compensate the possible loss Trichy may suffer in respect of berths availability on account of this extension.

In other words, previously a new train was announced from Chennai to Kumbakonam in the budget and it was not done at all.

They have changed the plan, extended Rockfort to Thanjavur/Kumbakonam and introduced Chennai-Erode Express. This train was later extended upto Coimbatore and now to Mangalore, a different matter.

As on date, 164 berths are available from Chennai to Trichy with a good timings in the Mangalore train.

Rockfort will restored to Trichy one day or the other. And this Mangalore train will not be taken away because of restoration of Rockfort.

At that time, Trichy will get the full Rockfort and this 164 berths of Mangalore train.

Even a bigger town, Madurai don't have this extra train with this much accommodation with good timings.

Pl tell me, in the long run, whether Trichy is benefitted because of the extension of Rockfort or not.

Or, will Trichy say, give us Rockfort and take back Mangalore train or run it in some other route, especially in the Kumbakonam,Thanjavur route with 164 berths to them, excluding Trichy.

There are some misconceptions or unknown facts.

Rockfort has 24 coaches, out of which 13 go to kumbakonam and 11 remain at Trichy. If we take Sleeper coaches 6 go to kumbakonam (including ES1) and six for Trichy.

Berths available for trichy exclusively - 6 x 72 = 432 (leave Tatkal and other quotas)

In Kumbakonam direction
------------------------

The remaining 432 berths, from the six sleeper coaches going to Kumbakonam, are not exclusive for Kumbakonam.

This is common both for Trichy and Kumbakonam, officially. This is direct.

This Kumbakonam portion will be filled by both Trichy and Kumbakonam/Thanjavur passengers on first-cum-first basis.

In Chennai direction
-------------------

Here, the berths of Kumbakonam portion are not common. But, Trichy passengers can take that accommodation also by making the booking from Tiruverumbur by paying Rs.3 extra. This is indirect.

Hence, on a particular day, technically, there is a possibility that all the berths of Kumbakonam portion can be taken by Trichy passengers, leaving nothing for Kumbakonam passengers.

This is for both directions.

Hence, berths of 6 coaches are not taken away by Kumbakonam/Thanjavur passengers exclusively, but shared with Trichy passengers on first-cum-first basis, either directly or indirectly.

Sometime back, Trichy portion of Rockfort was operated between Trichy and Madurai after a halt of 2+ hours at Trichy.

Many passengers bound for Madurai, booked in Trichy portion, didn't mind about the halt time at Trichy and travelled in the same coach upto Madurai, as those coaches were operated as unreserved coaches between Trichy and Madurai.

At that time, Trichy's share was taken away by Madurai passengers. Nobody bothered about that and actually, there was a big welcome to that train.

There is a talk of operating that train again and in that case, one portion of Rockfort will be going to Madurai.

The same situation.

we can ask the Railway why they are not restoring the Train. For this, the proper answer will come only if we go Through RIGHT FOR THE INFO ACT. Filing a case is also correct but think logically.... who will file a case? we have to meet a lawyer etc etc .... these things are easier if a political person is there to support us but without any such support it is pretty difficult i feel..... but this Right for Info isn't like that they are liable to answer the queries we raise and they can dodge us if it were private but being a wholly owned b y Govt Organization they must answer us and we need to just pay nearly 100 Rupees only at the max. we can get the answer within 1 month max. What do u'll say? shall we try this?
