Restore Rockfort Express’ original route: Tiruchi MP

The demand for restoring the Rockfort Express to its original route, between Tiruchi and Chennai Egmore, would be favourably considered once the main line becomes operational, Southern Railway General Manager Deepak Krishan has indicated.

Mr. Krishan was responding to a plea from the Tiruchi MP, P. Kumar of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, in this regard. Mr. Kumar, who submitted a slew of demands to Mr. Krishan here on Tuesday, appealed to the Southern Railway to restore the Express train — now extended up to Kumbakonam — to Tiruchi with a full complement of bogies at the earliest.

Mr. Krishan was in the city for a sectional inspection between Tiruchi and Erode falling under the Salem Railway Division on Tuesday.

Referring to the reported plan to extend the Pallavan Express up to Pudukottai/Karur, Mr. Kumar instead suggested the introduction of new superfast trains to Chennai from Pudukottai and Karur. With the completion of the electrification of the Tiruchi-Villupuram section, the speed of superfast trains could be increased so as to reduce the travel time further.

Work on the Karur-Salem line should be expedited with allocation of adequate funds as the project would help accelerate the economic development of the region. The Tiruchi-Thanjavur Passenger (Train No.855), the timings of which were changed recently, should be restored to its original schedule in the interest of commuters. Additional coaches should be attached to the Tiruchi-Palakkad Fast Passenger (Train No.888), he demanded.

Referring to passenger amenities, Mr. Kumar appealed to Mr. Krishan to improve the upkeep of passenger coaches as there were complaints of insects inside the bogies despite the regular cleaning done at the yards. Maintenance of toilets also left much to be desired. Many mobile charging points were in broken condition. Wherever possible, old coaches should be replaced with new ones. Construction of the fly-over near the Tiruchi Railway Junction should be expedited, he requested.

Level crossings

The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment D. Napoleon, in a representation submitted through his personal assistant, requested the General Manager to take steps to convert the unmanned level crossing at Melavaladi near Lalgudi and build subways across the railway tracks at T. Valavanur and Paramasivapuram, also in Lalgudi union.

Mr. Krishan held a discussion with S. Subramhanyan, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi and other top officials of the division at Tiruchi junction.

Inspection

Later Mr. Krishan accompanied by P.N. Ram, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, and K.V. Narayanadas, Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, Chennai, and heads of all the departments took up the inspection on the Tiruchi-Erode section, covering all aspects, including safety, bridges, passenger amenities and ticket reservation facilities in stations en route.

It now runs on Sundays too

TIRUCHI: Whenever new trains are introduced or existing trains are extended, the Railway initially operate them on a trial basis. Later, on ascertaining the patronage during the trial period for the new services they make it a permanent feature.

The Tiruchi–Karur passenger trains 879/880 which are operated on all days barring Sundays is now being operated on Sundays of late. As there was a good demand for the passenger train even on Sundays, commuters of both districts besides Karur District Train Travellers’ Welfare Association and other forums made repeated pleas to operate the train on Sundays as well.

Heeding public demand, the divisional railway authorities decided to operate the passenger train on Sundays too. The passenger train has been operating on Sundays as well from last month. The Railways announced that this arrangement will be made a permanent feature after ascertaining the patronage during the trial period of three months that ends in January.

The Karur District Train Travellers’ Welfare Association which played a key role in the introduction of this facility on Sundays too, was quick to create awareness among the travelling public to utilise this service, so that the needed patronage could be proved to the Railways.

The association has displayed banners with the timings of the train and the fare at important points in Tiruchi junction, Tiruchi Fort, Karur railway and Kulithalai Railway stations, besides on the main thoroughfares in Karur town to attract the attention of the public.

The association’s digital banners, while the thanking the Railways for heeding its request, urged the people to use the train service on Sundays too.

“Ever since we launched this campaign, there has been a good response. The train fare from Tiruchi to Karur is only Rs. 12 and we want the people to take advantage of this. We are confident that the Railways will make it a permanent feature once the three months trial period expires in January”, says S. Annadurai, president of the association.

Dear Sir,How r u? Again myself is writing this letter. thanks for your positive acknowledgement. In this letter i suggest the following:Due to the single line bottleneck in the chord line no additional trains to be operated between Trichy and Chennai. Even though doubling project approved from Villupuram to Dindigal it will take a very long time to complete due to the meagre allocation of funds. SR is wasting the funds by way of constructing bridges between Villupuram and chenglepet. My view is utilising that funds to make partial doubling between some saturated sections. More crossings occured in between Trichy and Vridhachalam particularly between kattur and ariyalur. Patch doubling the line between Kattur and chillakudi and from sendurai to ariyalur and also from ulundurpet and puvanur may relieve some traffic. If u travel in the night time many trains stranded in several stations for more than an hour. First we do like this lateron we construct bridges. This will be the immediate solution to operate more trains between trichy and chennai. Now there is double line between Trichy and ponmalai. It may extend upto Trichytown station for time being. The entrire strech between Trichy and Chennai patch doubling is must between the following.Madurantagam and MelmaruvathurKandambakkam to VillupuramUlundurpet to VridhachalamSendurai to AriyalurLalgudi to Kallakudi palanganathamThis will reduce the running time as well as introduction of more trains. There is no additional day trains between Trichy and chennai apart from Pallavan exp. We may ask to increase the frequency of Trichy howrah express from the present 2 times a week to 4times a week. The other 3days the frequencies shared by kanyakumari,Pondicherry and Rameswaram. Now the winter session of parliament going to start in the couple of days i want to remember about the things as i mentioned above.Hope you do the best for Trichy.ThanksR.S.Narayanan

Thx for wonderful effort to convey the message to MP...

Hats off

Dear Sir,My Name in Narayanan and now i am working at Ras Al Khaimah in United Arab Emirates. I am basically from Trichy and always supported for Trichy\'s growth. After Mr.RangarajanKumaramangalam we got an good MP like u. We are very happy to heard that u have opposed the govt moves to degrade Trichy Airport as well as stoppage of Trichy-Sharajah air india flight and many incidents.I want the following to be done for the Trichy people.Southern railway is neglecting Trichy\'s needs and they already extended Rockfort Express,MysoreExp and Now Ernakulam express. All the three trains are popular trains from Trichy. Now what happened Trichy people cannot board easily in that trains. We demanded several times for a seperate train to bangalore but the govt does not listen our needs. My request is that atleast retain 8coaches of Bangalore express and the same number of coaches of ernakulam express for Trichy people to board the train without any hardship. That is detatching the said coaches before the depature of the train for the forward destinations. We know that you have the potential to do this. For this you may discuss with the SR authorities at Trichy Division. I think Mr.Alagiri of Madurai constituency wants to develop Madurai by degrading Trichy. We may ask the govt to declare Trichy as International airport as the Trichy airport dominates among the indian airports.I request you to kindly consider the above.ThanksR.S.Narayanan009710557726802
