Quote:
French firm makes a presentation to the stakeholders

With the conceptual design for the proposed new international passenger terminal building at Tiruchi airport having been readied, a top-level meeting was organised here on Friday to put across the proposed blueprint of the new structure to the stakeholders.

In the stakeholders meet organised by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at the airport, senior representatives of the French consultancy firm made a detailed presentation regarding the concept design of the proposed swanky terminal to the participants.

Lasting nearly two hours, the meeting was attended by AAI General Manager project in-charge Sreekrishna, Airport Director K. Gunasekaran, senior officials of the AAI and representatives of airlines.

Airport sources said the representatives of the consultancy firm gave a power point presentation on how the proposed new terminal building would look besides making a video presentation.

It was also made known to the stakeholders that the concept design was prepared incorporating the rich culture and heritage of Tiruchi city.

The salient features of the futuristic new structure were explained by the consultants who have also prepared the detailed project estimate and carried out Geo-Technical Investigation report.

The two-level integrated passenger terminal building is to come up adjoining the existing one on a huge area of 67,500 square metres on AAI land.

The proposed building would be futuristic keeping in mind the growth to be achieved in the next 15 years.

The meeting was organised to ascertain suggestions and comments from the stakeholders regarding the concept design, said the sources.

The concept design would have to obtain final approval from the AAI authorities at New Delhi.

The foreign consultant would monitor the pace of the project and the quality of materials to be used in the construction of the new building.

The blueprint for the proposed new international passenger terminal building at Tiruchi airport is ready
.

A French consultant, engaged by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), has come out with a futuristic concept design for a swanky two-level integrated passenger terminal building and the cost estimate. The blueprint incorporates the rich culture and heritage of Tiruchi, besides encompassing other aspects.

The consultant has also come out with a Geo-Technical Investigation report for the new building that will come up adjoining the existing one.

With the concept design report ready, AAI has now planned to hold a meeting with all stakeholders where the foreign consultant will make a detailed presentation on the concept drawing and other aspects connected to the new project.

The new building will come up on AAI-owned 67,500-sq mt site and will have a basement and air side corridor.

The presentation is being planned to be held at the airport on Friday, with invitation to all stakeholders, including representatives from the airlines, oil companies and Central Industrial Security Force, to attend, a senior AAI official told The Hindu on Wednesday.

The meeting will ascertain the comments and suggestions of the stakeholders and the valid ones will be considered, the official said.

The blueprint will be forwarded to the AAI authorities in New Delhi for perusal and approval. Once the design is approved, the next stage will be preparation of tender documents, the official added.

“It will certainly be one of the most beautiful international passenger terminal buildings in the southern region. The proposed building will be environment and user friendly, besides being energy efficient on a par with world standards,” said the senior AAI official.

The construction of the building will be futuristic, taking into account the growth of passenger traffic in another 15 years. The Environmental Impact Assessment, which is being done by a Hyderabad-based agency is in the final stages, the official said.

The ground works ahead of the actual construction of the new terminal are in an active stage. The AAI has also proposed to construct a new technical block-cum-Air Traffic Control Tower and barracks for the Central Industrial Security Force personnel in the next phase.

At present, Tiruchi has direct connectivity to Colombo, Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Sharjah. The international passenger movements (arrival and departure) has exceeded 6.95 lakh till date in the current financial year.

Foreigners using e-Tourist Visa facility soars at Tiruchi airport

Quote:
Fast growing Tiruchi international airport has seen a marked rise in the number of foreign tourist arrivals on e-Tourist Visa this year.

The rising trend is evident from the figures of foreigners availing themselves of this facility
at this non-metro airport which witnesses nearly 800 foreign flight movements (both arrival and departure) on an average every month.

The number of foreigners’ arrivals on e-tourist visa at Tiruchi airport has already exceeded the 10,000 mark till date in the current year from January, airport sources told The Hindu. This figure is nearly double than what was recorded in the whole of calendar year 2016 (January – December) when foreigners arrivals on e-Tourist Visa were a little over 5,800 at Tiruchi airport.

Ever since e-tourist visa system was launched at Tiruchi airport in August 2015, the number of overseas nationals availing themselves of this facility is on the rise.

On an average nearly 20 to 30 foreigners arrive at the Tiruchi airport making use of this facility every day, said the sources.

Many overseas nationals land at Tiruchi armed with ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) document generated online with the stamping done by the Bureau of Immigration officials deployed at the dedicated counters created for such foreign passengers at the new international terminal building here.

There are four separate counters at Tiruchi airport to exclusively deal with foreigners arriving with ETA. Bio-metric details of such passengers are captured by the Immigration officials prior to stamping, said the sources.

The Central government in a bid to boost tourism in the country extended the e-tourist visa facility to seven non-metro international airports in the country including Tiruchi, Jaipur, Varanasi and Amritsar in August 2015.

This came at a time when there was a steady rise in overseas flight services from Tiruchi. Presently, Tiruchi has direct connectivity to Colombo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai and Sharjah every day.

The number of daily flights in the Tiruchi - Kuala Lumpur – Tiruchi sector is the highest with seven flights every day operated by Air Asia and Malindo Air.

Malaysians, Singaporeans and Sri Lankans are the top three among overseas citizens making use of the e-Tourist Visa facility to land at Tiruchi airport armed with Electronic Travel Authorisation generated online and with the respective nation’s passport, said the sources.

According to Union Ministry of Tourism compiling monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) on e-Tourist Visas, Tiruchi airport figured among the top 15 ports the country in FTA arrivals on e-Tourist Visa during September and October.

The e-Tourist Visa scheme was also made available for foreigners coming on business visit and for medical purposes besides tourism since April 1.
