IndiGo keen to operate services from Tiruchi
Tiruchi international airport may soon witness operation of another domestic service in the coming months with a team from IndiGo visiting the airport on Monday.

A high - level delegation from IndiGo a low-cost airline carried out a operational feasibility study ahead of launching service from Tiruchi and held discussions with top officials of the Airport Authority of India here.

The five-member team held a meeting with the Airport Director K. Gunasekaran in this connection besides interacting with senior officials of the Air Traffic Management and Export Cargo terminal to get a first hand account of the airport. Tiruchi at present has only domestic connectivity to Chennai despite repeated demands from the travel industry for augmenting domestic services to various other cities from here.

Airport sources told The Hindu that the team went around the new international terminal building, Air Traffic Control, export cargo terminal, runway and the Indian Oil Corporation terminal at the airport. The team ascertained finer details regarding the international airport, its existing operation details, passenger capacity and other technical details.

The team has expressed interest in launching services in the Tiruchi – Chennai and Tiruchi – Bengaluru sectors, Airport Director, Tiruchi K. Gunasekaran told The Hindu after the meeting.

During the discussions, the airline officials evinced interest in operating service from Tiruchi during the upcoming winter schedule, he further said. The airline is expected to operate ‘ATR’ type aircraft in the Tiruchi – Chennai and Tiruchi – Bengaluru sectors. The team is expected to convey the details to its higher ups before taking a concrete decision on the launch of the new service, said airport sources.

Requesting to see the above two pictures, for 10th Aug, jet airways charging exorbitantly for Trichy-Chennai route than Trichy-Chennai-Mumbai (it is even a hopping flight). Even though the flight from Trichy-Chennai is by same JA co.

The reason for Trichy airport is still not connected with more domestic destinations is because, due to all of our trichy based travel agencies, they are giving a negative feedback about the trichy region potential to the airline companies.

Last year when indigo officials from coimbatore came to trichy and survied along with trichy based travel agencies, these people gave 100% false report to indigo airline officials.

Hi Prasanna, Do you have valid backup to support this claim ! Also I would say to refrain to publish this in public posting as the agents play a vital role in TRZ development..I agree there may be some agents who have negative thoughts but Indigo or Jet airways as an airlines they should not rely on any travel agents instead they should do a feasibility on own....As end of the day Indigo or Jet is the loser not the agents as they book through other airports...

Here is the information given by Malindo CEO Chandran Rama Muthy on Trichy-Bangktok-Trichy Traffic in 2014

Quote:
Malindo has benefitted from robust local demand for India-Malaysia services as well as demand to Indonesia and Thailand. India-Indonesia is a relatively large market not currently served non-stop by any carrier.

Malindo is able to offer one-stop connections from India to Jakarta and Bali and two-stop connections to secondary Indonesian destinations using its sister carriers Lion Air and Wings Air.

Mr Muthy says Malindo has also seen strong traffic numbers from Kochi and Tiruchirappalli to Bangkok, a market without any non-stop services.

^^^^
So, Thai Air Asia would have taken wisely taken this decision to start 4x weekly Trichy-Bangktok-Trichy Non-stop direct service initially by analysing a multitude of factors and statistics favoring such a move :)
