Trichy MP Mr. Kumar meets Union Defence Minister to resolve the Deadlock of Mannarpuram Arm LA issue

Image
Tiruchi MP P. Kumar handing over a memorandum to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Monday

Quote:
Mr. Kumar also presented another memorandum to the Defence Minister, appealing for transfer of defence land to the extent of 0.26855 hectares for reconstruction of a road overbridge near Tiruchi railway junction in lieu of the existing old bridge.

The memorandum said 85 per cent of reconstruction was completed except the approach ramp on the Chennai arm, which was pending for the last two years due to lack of ‘in-principle’ approval for transfer of the defence land.

While the Dindigul arm of the road over bridge was completed and opened for traffic, the Madurai arm would be opened in a few months. But the work on the Chennai arm was pending. Mr. Kumar said he had met the Defence Secretary and previous defence ministers for the last two years.

Girders placed for Thiruvanaikovil ROB

Image

‘Work is expected to be completed before the end of March’

Construction of a new road over bridge (ROB) across the railway track at Periyar Nagar on Thiruvanaikovil Trunk Road in the city crossed a milestone with massive steel girders being placed in position for the bridge on the railway portion of the structure on Monday.

The process was expected to be completed in a few days. The bridge is being built by the Highways Department and the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.

Sources in the Highways Department said the bridge would be completed before the end of March.

The project was sanctioned by the government in 2011 at an estimated Rs. 47 crore to replace the old narrow two-lane bridge, which has since been demolished. The bridge, will run for a distance of about 1,430 metre and have a width of 17.20 metre. About 14,000 square metres of land is to be acquired on both sides – towards Thiruvanaikovil and Mambazhasalai.

75 % of the four-lane bridge work completed, says Collector

Steps were being taken to complete the construction of a new overbridge across the railway track at Periyar Nagar on Thiruvanaikovil Trunk Road in the city within the next four months, Collector K.Rajamani has said.

About 75 % of the work, being executed on an outlay of Rs. 47 crore, had been completed, Mr.Rajamani said after inspecting the progress of the work on Thursday. The four-lane bridge is being built to replace a narrow two-lane bridge, which has since been demolished. Work gathered pace over the past few months.

The bridge will be 1,430 metres long and 17.20 metres wide.

Mr. Rajamani also inspected other works being executed by the Highways Department, such as the widening of culverts and minor bridges on Nochiyam-Mannachanallur section of Tiruchi-Thuraiyur highway. Minor bridges are being built across the Panguni Vaical and Peruvalaivaical at a total cost of Rs. 3.15 crore sanctioned under Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme. Work on construction of the bridge across Panguni Vaical has been completed and approach roads are being laid. Reconstruction of another minor bridge sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 1 crore under Road Safety Progamme across the Pullampadi Vaical is nearing completion.

Accompanied by Highways and NABARD officials, Mr.Rajamani also inspected construction of a bridge between Thandalaipudur and Thinnakonam.
