BHEL spends Rs. 1.35 crore on cleanliness projects

The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi, has so far spent Rs. 1.35 crore on various cleanliness projects under the Swachh Bharat initiative of the Centre, said R. Rajamanohar, its Executive Director, here recently.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of ‘Swachhta hi Sewa’ fortnight observed at BHEL, Tiruchi, Mr. Rajamanohar said works such as construction of new toilet blocks and renovating old ones in nearby villages, providing financial assistance for construction of 1,000 household toilets in Thuvakudi municipality, providing electrical incinerators to over 150 educational institutions, providing overhead water tanks to nearby villages and cleanliness drive have been taken up under the initiative.

Appreciating the efforts and support of Tiruchi Corporation in carrying out cleanliness activities in nearby areas, Mr. Rajamanohar said that by devoting two hours per week for cleaning their work places and surroundings, employees of BHEL, Tiruchi, have contributed over three lakh man hours for cleanliness drives. N. Ravichandran, Special Officer-cum-Commissioner, Tiruchi Corporation, pointed out that Tiruchi had bagged second place among the cleanest cities in the country in 2015 and stood third and sixth in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Tiruchi has maintained its rank in top 10 cities in spite of competing with over 4000 cities in the country.

He thanked the residents for their whole hearted cooperation and participation in the efforts of the City Corporation. Enumerating various initiatives including door-to-door collection of garbage, incentives for segregating and depositing waste and opening of micro-compost yards, Mr. Ravichandran said efforts are on to make Tiruchi the cleanest city in the country. Mr. Rajamanohar and Mr. Ravichandran distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted earlier as part of ‘Swachhta hi Sewa’ fortnight among campus school students.

BHEL staff bag 54% of Vishwakarma awards

15 out of 28 honours

Employees of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) have bagged the maximum number of Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskars among public and private sector companies in the country for 2015.

BHEL employees won 15 out of 28 Vishwakarma awards, which is 54% of the total awards.

Significantly, this is the highest number of awards ever won by any organisation in the country, according to a press release from BHEL, Tiruchi.

The awards were presented by the Union Minister of State, Labour and Employment (Independent Charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar, at a function held in New Delhi recently.

Fifteen Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskars have been shared by 63 employees from the organisation’s Tiruchi, Haridwar, Thirumayam and Hyderabad units for innovative suggestions leading to cost reduction, higher productivity, safety and quality of products.

Accident free

In addition, six National Safety Awards have been won by BHEL’s Tiruchi unit for outstanding achievements in terms of the longest accident-free period and the lowest accident frequency rate at the workplace, the press release added.

BHEL Commissions 1,980 MW Thermal Power Plant in Uttar Pradesh

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has executed 1,980 megawatt (MW) coal-based supercritical thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday (May 23), informed the power plant equipment manufacturer in a Bombay Stock Exchange filing.

Earlier, BHEL commissioned the third unit of the 3x660 MW Prayagraj Super Thermal Power Project.

The first two units of the project, commissioned earlier by BHEL, are already under commercial operation. Located in Bara tehsil in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh, the project is owned by Prayagraj Power Generation Company, a subsidiary company of Jaiprakash Power Ventures.

BHEL’s scope of work in the project included design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the Boiler and TurbineGenerator package.

The key equipment for the project has been manufactured by BHEL at its Haridwar, Trichy, Hyderabad, Ranipet and Bengaluru works, while the construction of the plant was undertaken by the company's Power Sector - Northern Region.

In the last 17 months, six supercritical sets have been commissioned in Uttar Pradesh, all of which have been installed by BHEL, the company said.

It further added, over 70 percent of Uttar Pradesh’s power generation capacity, aggregating to more than 17,000 MW, has been supplied by BHEL. In the last two years, BHEL has commissioned 4,960 MW of projects in the state.

BHEL bags Rs. 233-cr order from Ramagundam Fertilzer plant

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has bagged an order for supply of a steam and power generation package from Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemaicals Limited, a project which is beieng revived.

The Rs. 233 crore order was bagged by the State owned public sector undertaking amidst stiff international competitive bidding process, the company informed in a statement.

The order has been placed on BHEL for setting up the package at RFCL’s fertilizer plant at Ramagundam in Telangana.

The scope of BHEL’s contract includes design, enginering, manufacture, supply erection and commissiong of a 32. 5 mw gas turbine, 125 TRH Heat Recovery Steam Generator, 85 TPH Utility Boiler and Balance of Plant package along with associated auxiliaries. This is on limpsum turnkey basis including mandator spares.

According to a statement from BHEL, the equipment for this package shall be supplied by BHEL’s manufacturing units at Hyderabad, Vizag, Bhopal, Jhansi, Trichy and Chennai.

The erection and commissioning of the project will be undertaken by the company’s Power Sector estern region, nagpur.

This is part of the Government of India’s ongoing initiative of revival of fertilizer facailities in the country.
