Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has got orders worth about 100 billion rupees from NTPC and coal miner and power generator Neyveli Lignite Corp Ltd, its chairman said on Tuesday.

Its chairman Ravi Kumar told Reuters the state-run power equipment maker has got orders worth up to 60 billion rupees for five units of state-run power generator NTPC.

Ravikumar said Neyveli Lignite has also placed an order worth 32 billion rupees.

Kumar said BHEL also expects 600 million rupees revenue in 2009/10 from a joint venture signed on Tuesday to make products for railways and industries.

"Next year we're planning a turnover of 600 million rupees" he told reporters.

The Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Raghunath Jha took stock of the expansion activities of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi, during his recent visit. Accompanied by S.K. Jha, a senior official in the Ministry, Mr. Raghunath went around the production facilities and new expansion shops.

The Executive Director of BHEL, Tiruchi, V. Ananthakrishnan and senior officials apprised the Minister of the progress being made on various fronts.

Impressed by the manufacturing facilities, Mr. Raghunath appreciated the employees for their enthusiasm in making the ‘Navaratna’ company the ‘Pride of India’.

TIRUCHI: Projects worth Rs. 1,000 crore are being undertaken in the areas of Valves, Advanced Technology Products, Welding Research Institute, Seamless Steel Tube Plant, Coal Research and modernisation of shop floors under the second phase of expansion in BHEL, Tiruchi, Executive Director V. Ananthakrishnan said on Monday.

Delivering the Republic Day address at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in BHEL Township after unfurling the national tricolour and taking the salute of security personnel, Mr. Ananthakrishnan said that huge orders would see BHEL through the economic upheavals. As on date, BHEL, Tiruchi, had orders worth Rs. 2,200 crore, he said.

On capacity augmentation schemes being implemented by BHEL to meet the country’s ambitious power addition programmes, he said manufacturing capacity will go up to 15,000 MW in the second phase.

Approvals are awaited for augmenting the capacity to 20,000 MW under the third phase of expansion, he said, adding that in addition to the recruitment of skilled artisans and supervisor trainees and induction of engineer trainees in four phases, 500 more artisans would be recruited soon in BHEL, Tiruchi.

Shot in the arm


Taking pride in BHEL’s in-house Research and Development, Mr. Ananthakrishnan said that the recent inauguration of the Once-through Supercritical Test Facility, the sixth in the world, was a shot in the arm for the country’s technical advancement efforts.

He hoped to replicate the achievement in high technology products and Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle.

Mr. Ananthakrishnan presented awards to outstanding employees on the occasion which was marked by a colourful pageantry presented by students of schools in the township.
